Youth in Science provides economically disadvantaged children with first-rate educational experiences in science that enhance knowledge and self-efficacy, and which serve as a personal watershed for future learning and achievement. Each summer, we host a 9-day summer science camp in the Sierra Nevada. We also provide, through this Web site, an on-line community for Youth in Science kids to stay plugged into to science during the academic school year. Students in Youth in Science have been invited to participate in our program on the recommendation of their teachers. Teachers play a pivotal role in recruiting children who have a real fire for science and learning, but, because of their economic circumstances, would not be able to participate in a program such as Youth in Science. Our corporate and private sponsors likewise play a vital role in our program by providing the financial support to give these deserving children a once-in-a-lifetime experience. |
