What is Success in Science?
Success in Science (or Science 2), affectionately known as "Boot Camp in Science", is a course offered by the College of Science at San Jose State University (SJSU).

The Purpose and History:
Freshman science students at SJSU have traditionally had lower GPAs and retention rates than those of other colleges at SJSU. Science 2 was developed to help College of Science Freshmen by giving them a realistic view of what it takes to succeed in science, helping them to develop study skills, and orienting them to university life.
Course consists of:
- Lecture
- Activity section
- Peer mentoring and advising
Lecture introduces students to:
- Departments, majors, and careers in science
- College faculty
- SJSU campus administrators
- Campus resources
- University policies and procedures
- Potential employers
Activity Section:
- 20 students maximum size
- Peer advisor + instructor
- Hands-on experience
- Interactive
- Tools for self-understanding
- Time management strategies
- Study skills development
- Written and oral communication
- Success Teams (study groups)
