All radiation workers are required to receive initial training or provide documentation of equivalent training before they are authorized to work with radiation sources at the University. Initial training can be provided by attending the Radiation Safety Course. It is a two unit course. The course will provide at least 40 hours of instruction. It includes 10 homework assignments, 10 laboratory activities, 2 quizzes and a final. There is a text book required for this course. The course is offered in the fall and the spring as Nucs-121S, Chem-121S or Phys-121S. Refresher training is required each year by all radiation workers. This training is generally about an hour in length. Refresher training can be provided in the Nuclear Science Facility by the Radiation Safety Officer.
Many people require access to the Nuclear Science Facility to support or perform research there. Training is required to obtain an access code to enter. This training is coordinated by contacting the Radiation Safety Officer. This training is a computer-based-training and includes a tour of the facility to ensure that you know were the hazards are located.
