RADIATION SAFETY is an upper division course open to research assistants, faculty, staff, under graduates, graduate students and outside industry.  Although there are no specific prerequisites, it assumed that all students are science and/or engineering majors who are interested in using radioactive materials and/or machines that produce ionizing radiation.  The course fulfills the University’s legal requirement for radiation safety training for persons who will work with radioactive materials and/or radiation producing machines.

This course is offered on Friday afternoons every semester. Its is a two unit course initially designed for the Master of Science degree program in Radiological Health Physics. The course provides training to radiation workers who do not have a background handling radioactive materials or x-ray sources. This course involves hands on activities to increase the knowledge, skills and abilities of the learner. You will often find faculty and staff in the class as well as private industry employees.

The course syllabus (fall 2012 will be available soon) provides the schedule that you will need to follow. It will also have the homework assignments as well as the laboratory activity descriptions. It is highly recommended that you read the information before coming to class.
